![]() ![]() ![]() My hope for you is you find the same for yourself. I'm better able to do all those three as a result of my time spent among my church family at CBF. The church mission statement is: Glorify God, Equip Believers, Share Jesus Christ. How are you going to apply it, if you don't remember or understand it well? Learning a chapter within a book of the bible verse by verse is fantastic if you truly wish to soak up God's word like sponge. Those books are all part of the Bible for a reason, non more or less important than another. That's a sure fire way to learn and retain the Gospel in my opinion and I've thoroughly enjoyed it, as has our family. We take the Word straight out of the Bible and we learn exactly what was intended without skipping parts. He said, "It keeps not only the pastor, but the congregation honest." Meaning, we don't pick and choose that in which we want to discuss or hear. I listened to the pastor tell us why he preferred expository preaching once. I found that I enjoyed it so much more and retained the scriptures better than I ever had prior. Expository preaching "exposes" scripture and provides a comprehensive explanation of each verse of scripture accompanied by supporting scripture.Īt Cornerstone Bible Fellowship, the Bible is taught book by book, chapter by chapter, and verse by verse. The difference you ask? When I had experienced most preaching it was always a theme or topic backed by various scripture to illustrate and back a point of view. I had experienced mostly 'theme' preaching before. The sermons are primarily 'expository' and that was different for me. Additionally, my daughter was really jazzed to go on Sunday and see some of the new friends she made.Īfter we'd attended a few sermons on Sundays it was obvious that CBF was a no-nonsense style non-denominational church. Not only had our daughter enjoyed the VBS but after we saw first hand that CBF had a really nice facility and contained caring people, it was easy for us to try a few Sundays to see if it was "right" for us. At the end of the week's VBS, all the parents were invited to a luncheon. They had come highly recommended by others around the community that were well regarded, so we sent our daughter to their Vacation Bible School. My wife and I were "church shopping" when we happened across CBF in Newton. ![]()
